Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) is still having a hard time recovering from Doug’s (Bill Hayes) death on Days of Our Lives. It’s been doubly difficult for her since the Hayes’ were married in real life, and Bill passed away in January 2024. But she’s been able to forge ahead in life and continues to do work to pay tribute to his memory, and recently honored her husband by sharing some of his Old Hollywood memorabilia.
An iconic show’s memory lives on
Days of Our Lives’ Susan Seaforth Hayes had something amazing to share on social media. She took to Instagram and posted a photo of herself holding an old, oversized book that looks like it might be a part of a larger collection. She captioned it, “What I feared would be a painful goodbye turned into a joyful hello today. This morning, I made a gift of my husband’s collection of bound scripts from Your Show of Shows to the Writers’ Guild Foundation.” She explained Bill’s connection to the classic series, continuing with, “My Billy was the show’s romantic tenor in the 1950s, before his Broadway debut. He purchased the bound volumes from the heirs of Max Liebman, the iconic variety show’s producer.”
She further shared the amazing news that fans would be able to check out the tomes, writing, “The foundation’s spacious library in Hollywood is open to the public, where you may see, read, and enjoy scripts from America’s greatest films and TV shows. Hilary Swett, the archivist there, is charming, helpful, and enthusiastic. So, I gave my darling’s treasured memories to a place where creative achievement in writing for entertainment is preserved and honored forever.”
She lovingly finished with, “I believe Billy is as happy as I am now,” and directed fans to go check it out at The Writers Guild Foundation, and added, “Say I sent you.”
It was wonderful

Your Show of Shows was a hugely popular variety show that ran from 1950 to 1954. It starred legendary comedians Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca, and Hayes recurred as a singer on it. Martha Madison, who plays Belle on Days of Our Lives, responded, “An incredible gift. Just like you and Bill!” @phyllis.speer.14 lovingly commented, “How wonderful, Susan. Ty for sharing your Billy's treasures.”
The fans couldn’t stop remarking about how wonderful Susan’s actions were, with @filmtvmovielover_hoooahhhh writing, “How wonderful for all to see! Thank you @billsusanhayes. He’s smiling down on you always.” And a long-time fan going by the handle, @amykentberke, responded with, “My mother LOVED to watch him sing on Your Show of Shows!! She had quite the crush on him— she dragged her sister to see And Juliet on Broadway so that she could see Bill Hayes!!”
