Considering Days of Our Lives shoots several months to a year in advance, it’s surprising that the show can keep anything under wraps. But they do, and in July 2024, new head writers were appointed: Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford. We’re finally starting to see what they have in store for our favorite Salem denizens, and the two opened up about what viewers can expect.
Courtroom drama is ahead

Cwikly and Ford spoke to Soaps, revealing all kinds of storyline tidbits to whet the appetites of DAYS fans everywhere. They were asked which characters would have their stories go in shocking directions, and the two answered, “It’s impossible to pick just one. EJ [Dan Feuerriegel], Xander [Paul Telfer], Philip [John-Paul Lavoisier], Leo [Greg Rikaart], Sophia [Rachel Boyd], Stephanie [Abigail Klein]…”
They further noted that EJ’s shooting will have effects rippling through Salem, and remarked that the mystery storyline had been previously set up very well when they began the writing gig. “Half of Salem was established to have the means, motive, and opportunity,” they stated, adding that before it’s over, there will be many more suspects added and removed, along with arrests that will culminate in “A summer trial that involves and affects many characters.”
Although they didn’t reveal who exactly the person was being put on trial, Belle (Martha Madison) and EJ will somehow be opposing each other in the courtroom. It’s possible that EJ must defend himself, considering he lost the DA job to Belle. The two have revealed that they’re both in love with one another, so it will be interesting to see how the courtroom drama plays out. (Find out what Feuerriegel said about EJ’s shooting.)
A possible Kiriakis war looms

Moving along, the writers explained that there’s also “The escalation of Xander and Philip’s war over Titan, which jeopardizes both the company and the family.” They noted that the Kirakii might not just lose DiMera, but Titan as well. Hopefully, the brothers can learn how to once again get along for the greater good of their family and their father’s dynasty.
The outlet posited that Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) could be a major contender for the CEO position at Titan if Xander and Philip’s war escalates too far. However, the writers teased that there’s “The courtship of Alex and Stephanie that includes him encouraging her to explore a new chapter of her professional life.” Therefore, Alex might just be too busy to take the reins.
Cwikly and Ford also discussed the teen drama of Days of Our Lives' Tate and Sophia as her due date is imminent, which will be “delivering complications for Holly and Tate.” Hopefully, Johnny gets his head screwed back on straight and he realizes that he and Chanel (Raven Bowens) were destined to adopt the teens’ child, thereby relieving all parties involved. (Did Johnny and Chanel's adoption end before it started?)
According to the outlet, what the writers revealed was just the tip of the iceberg, so Days of Our Lives fans should buckle up and prepare for uncharted waters ahead.
Days of Our Lives can be seen on the Peacock app.
