DAYS chooses its new Aussie hottie

The NBC soap has officially named its new Australian cast member.

Time to throw some shrimp on the barbie, because Days of our Lives has officially chosen the winner of its Search for a Star competition.

The nearly 50-year-old soap has chosen Sydney actor Alexander Bruszt to play the role of Fynn, a handsome, rugged Australian doctor who arrives in Salem to do his residency, specifically to gain skills as a surgeon, working under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Jonas (Shawn Christian).

The 32-year-old was one of over 300 actors -- including finalists Andrew Steel and Tom Dalzell -- vying for the chance to play the exciting role.

"This has been the most amazing time for me," Bruszt says of the competition, casting process, and landing the role. "I could have only dreamed of a role like this and I am looking forward to this opportunity to work with such an incredibly talented cast and crew on such an internationally respected daytime drama."

Alexander started out in the acting world at age 16, landing a part on Australia's most popular series, Home and Away (which has started the careers of actors such as Chris Hemsworth, Melissa George, Simon Baker, Guy Pearce, and the late Heath Ledger), just a week after signing with an agency. His other television credits include various hosting roles including his two-year hosting role of Super Simpsons Live on Foxtel's FOX8 with Amy Erbacher and hosting Foxtel's RA surf show. His movie credits include lead roles in the short films Overdrawn, The Brother, and Room With View, and a supporting role in Little Black Dress. He's also a familiar face in over 100 commercials.

Alexander will return to Los Angeles next month to shoot his episodes, which will hit the screen during the DAYS' 50th anniversary event, happening in November.
