Major broadcasting corporation drops DAYS -- but fans get it back

A South African broadcasting corporation decided to drop Days of our Lives from its broadcast schedule, a move that enraged fans and prompted SABC to reconsider.

Loyal South African Days of our Lives fans were enraged that the SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) decided to give the NBC soap the axe -- so enraged that they spoke out en masse and got the company to reconsider.

In a move aimed at bringing viewers more local programming, the national broadcaster dropped DAYS, which boasted over one million viewers and was its seventh most-watched program.

However, DAYS' direct competitor, CBS's The Bold and the Beautiful (the most watched program on SABC3 with an average of 1.55 million viewers), remained in the lineup.

Unfortunately for SABC, ratings plummeted after it replaced DAYS and other programs with local content this summer. Couple that with thousands of fans expressing their disappointment, and you have the perfect recipe for an about-face.

SABC will resume airing Days of our Lives on Monday, August 22 -- but it will air at 11:30pm.

Do you think SABC's decision to move DAYS to a late-night time slot is a possible sign of the show's future? Or do you think that television decisions that happen in South Africa have no bearing on the soap's future in the US?
