Days of our Lives' Charles Shaughnessy (Shane/Drew Donovan) will be making soap fans' holidays merry and bright with his heartwarming film Buttons and a return to the stage in A Christmas Carol.

Christmas is still several months away, but that isn't stopping Days of our Lives' Charles Shaughnessy (Shane/Drew Donovan) from spreading a little holiday cheer. The actor has taken to social media to announce that he is returning to the stage this December and his new Hollywood star-studded film is set for a release that same month.

Television fans know Shaughnessy has quite the knack for playing outrageously affluent characters, as he's known for playing wealthy Broadway producer Maxwell Sheffield on the popular 1990s sitcom The Nanny. So, it's no wonder he has landed the role of filthy rich character Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, which is running at the Tempe Center for the Arts in Arizona from December 6 through December 23.

Says the theater's official website: "This spectacular Broadway musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel, A Christmas Carol, follows Ebenezer Scrooge as he takes a ghost-guided, eye-opening journey through his past, present and future to learn the importance of family and friendship. Filled with lively song and dance, stunning sets and costumes, it will leave you and yours wrapped in the joy of the season. You don't want to miss this holiday classic of hope, love and redemption."

December sounds like it will be quite a busy time for Shaughnessy, who also recently announced that his new film, Buttons, is scheduled for release right before Christmas, as well.

Narrated by Kate Winslet, the musical fairytale is set in a New England mill town in the early 1900s and follows the story of Annabelle (Alivia Clark), a young child who has been taught by her mother to believe in angels and miracles. When tragedy strikes Annabelle's happy life, she is left broken-hearted -- until a mysterious angel (Dick Van Dyke) leads her story to a triumphant and inspiring ending.
