Days of our Lives fans won't have to go long without Sami Brady on their screens because portrayer Alison Sweeney is returning to the NBC soap opera when it resumes production this month.

It sounds like Days of our Lives viewers may need to stock up on Kleenex because Alison Sweeney is reprising her role as Sami Brady for a story that might prompt some waterworks.

Deadline reports that the actress will be stepping back into the shoes of her iconic character when DAYS resumes production on Monday, August 31 -- and it will be the actress' longest stint back on the series since she left in 2014.

"It is always a beautiful day in Salem when we get to welcome Alison Sweeney back to the canvas," said Executive Producer Ken Corday in a statement. "Sami Brady is an integral part of our show's history, and we are elated that she's coming home again."

Sweeney previously shot scenes for DAYS that are currently airing, and that material will last through the end of September. She will be back on-screen again sometime after that for an emotional storyline that centers "around family and Sami's recently SORASed daughter, Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold)", Corday teases. That story will keep Sweeney and her alter ego on-screen through most of 2021, according to Corday.

Sweeney left DAYS in 2014 after starring in the show since 1993. During her time on the NBC soap, she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category in 2015 and won the special Fan Emmy Award for America's Favorite Villain in 2002. She returned to the show in 2017 and has appeared on and off since then in various storylines.
