Salemites are wrapping up the year with an incredible milestone: Days of our Lives just aired its 14,000th episode. Soap Central spoke with Martha Madison (Belle Black) and Brandon Beemer (Shawn-Douglas Brady) about the exciting occasion.

A lot of drama has gone down on Days of our Lives during the show's five and a half decades of life, and we mean a lot. A full 14,000 episodes of drama, thankyouverymuch.

The NBC soap opera rolled out its milestone episode on December 17, and Martha Madison (Belle Black) says that filming such an exciting moment in the show's history was especially gratifying this year.

"It's the bright spot in an otherwise challenging, weird time," she says. "I remember doing the 10,000th episode and thinking, 'How did [we get here]? This is crazy! How much longer can it go?' So, 4,000 more in the can is pretty remarkable."

Adds Brandon Beemer (Shawn-Douglas Brady), "It's a milestone, and I think that everybody is very happy -- and I think also everybody is super happy to be working during this time. 14,000 episodes, that's a lot! And I think overall... it's fun to be a part of it, especially with COVID-19 and all of this."

DAYS has gone above and beyond to keep its actors, staff, and crew safe during the pandemic, and the show's efforts have kept a lot of people employed. That, in and of itself, is a huge miracle and something else to be celebrated, says Madison.

"Everyone is really happy to be working and to be together and to have milestones to celebrate," she points out. "It's a really uncertain time for our industry right now, and we're really the lucky few that get to go to work and go to work safely with people that we love and admire and respect every day. That's always the goal, and we get to do it every day."

In celebration of its 14,000th episode, Days of our Lives hosted a groundbreaking online press junket in which the stars talked about the milestone moment, the upcoming holiday episodes, and more. So, keep checking back to Soap Central for lots of fun DAYS content in the days ahead!
