Get the details on the new Spike Lee film Son of the South, a project that Days of our Lives' Mike Manning (Charlie Dale) says he's very proud to be a part of.

Days of our Lives' Mike Manning (Charlie Dale) is becoming no stranger to filming uncomfortable storylines. His Salem alter ego was recently revealed as the person responsible for sexually assaulting Lucas and Sami's daughter, Allie (Lindsay Arnold), and the actor reveals that the rape scenes were so intense, filming them made him physically ill. Now, he's tackling another sensitive topic on-screen: race relations.

Manning took to Twitter on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to share that he will be appearing in the upcoming film Son of the South, a biographical historical drama that tells the true-life story of a grandson of a Klansman who comes of age in the deep South and eventually joins the Civil Rights Movement.

Written and directed by Barry Alexander Brown and executive produced by Spike Lee, Son of the South is based on Bob Zellner's autobiography, The Wrong Side of Murder Creek: A White Southerner in the Freedom Movement. It stars Lucas Till as Zellner, while Manning will play Zellner's best friend, Townsend Ellis, who struggles to support his friend during his growing involvement with the Civil Rights Movement.

"I think #MLKDay is a good day to tell you 'Son of The South' will be out Feb. 5th," Manning posted. "I hope it strengthens the dialogue our country is currently having about the fight for equality on all fronts. Exec produced by Oscar-winner Spike Lee. Proud of this one."
