THE 34th ANNUAL DAYTIME EMMY AWARDS
The hours are ticking away to this year's Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards -- yes, that's a spiffy new name for the Daytime Emmys. This year the Emmys return to Hollywood for a second year. While there won't be as much hoopla around this year's ceremony -- last year's telecast lasted a whopping three hours -- there will definitely be highlights. The night kicks off with the final appearance of Bob Barker as host of The Price Is Right. The Emmy-winning emcee has opted to retire from entertainment and will focus his attention on charity work and spending time with his family.
While the ceremony may lack some of the pomp and circumstance of last year's three-hour marathon tribute to fans of daytime television, this year's Emmys should prove to be the most interesting winner-wise in some time. In many categories there are no clear frontrunners and there is the potential for a lot of first time winners. Guiding Light, a show that has been on the air longer than any scripted entertainment program in the broadcast history, is the top nominations-getter -- but the show ranks at the bottom of the ratings pack. Three of the nominees for Outstanding Drama Series are shows that typically do not win the top prize.
To get things kicked off, we've assembled our pre-Emmy coverage: you can review all of this year's nominees and also find out which clips they've submitted for Emmy consideration.
