The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards are just over two weeks away, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) has announced who will be hosting the primetime event: The Talk co-host Sheryl Underwood.
The TV personality -- who is known to be a huge soap fan -- will emcee the 2021 event from Los Angeles, where a stage has been set up for the show. Additionally, as many Emmy nominees shared with Soap Central in our Emmy nomination reaction interviews with the stars, the pre-taped broadcast will feature presenters and honorees accepting their awards from their show studios and private homes.
Though the choice of having Underwood host the Emmys solo is a fun one, it's a slight departure from previous years, when Underwood hosted as part of a duo with Mario Lopez (ex-Dr. Christian Ramirez, The Bold and the Beautiful) and as part of a team with all of her The Talk cohosts, as she did last year.
The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will air on Friday, June 25, at 8PM ET on CBS, and will also stream live on Paramount+. Most of the key daytime drama, game, and talk show awards will be presented on the telecast, with additional winners being announced simultaneously on Twitter via the @DaytimeEmmys handle. Awards for Daytime Children's Programming, Animation, and Daytime Lifestyle Programming will be presented in a separate ceremony in July.
