Tobey Maguire had been originally cast as the writer in Ang Lee's Life of Pi (2012), but the director changed his mind after the first cut. Lee felt Maguire's stardom was overshadowing the cinematic texture of the film, and opted to replace the actor with the relatively unknown Rafe Spall. Rather than Maguire protesting, Maguire lauded Lee for his vision. The film went on to become a hit and win four Academy Awards. Maguire, on the other hand, kept himself away from the limelight for a while and returned as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) to great applause.
