Phoebe's relationship to the real world is so removed as is her grasp of logic: she entertains beliefs about Santa Claus that could only have been developed that way in her strange, strange logic, and was pushing Joey into learning French-funny enough, that she created it all in words-in case of his failure she leveraged her crazy thoughts even again. The thing with Phoebe is that her version of reality does not always match what the world considers "normal", and this is why her different interpretations of several situations add a certain hyperreality to her character.
