Jack Nicholson appeared in a number of low-budget films and television series early in his career, such as The Cry Baby Killer (1958) and the TV series The Andy Griffith Show. It was not until the 1970s that Nicholson's talent came to the fore with such films as Easy Rider (1969) and Five Easy Pieces (1970). These small roles found Nicholson his distinctive voice for the unforgettable performances in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) and The Shining (1980).
