Christian Bale was initially cast for the lead role in American Psycho 2 (2002), but after months of casting, he was eventually let go when Leonardo DiCaprio became available. Even though he was fired, Bale continued training at the gym, thinking that the role would come back to him. He was quoted saying in an interview with Wall Street Journal, "I'm English, so I never go to a gym, but for that role, it was part of the whole deal that I had to go. I still kept going down to the gym every day because I was going, 'Oh, I'm making the film.'"
