Ryan Gosling was cast as Jack Salmon in The Lovely Bones but was replaced by Mark Wahlberg after filming for only several weeks. Gosling is said to have left the set mainly because of a character mismatch between his performance and what director Peter Jackson had in mind for the part. Gosling was said to have left the project mainly because the role was very emotional, which made him decide to leave the production. The exit from The Lovely Bones marked one of the few occasions where he dropped out of a significant film, but it didn't seem to affect him as he continued to win iconic roles in films such as Drive and La La Land.
