One of the most important spells for a wizard is to unlock doors and windows with Unlocking Charm, Alohomora. The spell was introduced in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone when it became one of Hermione Granger's favorite charms as used it to unlock areas that are strictly restricted within Hogwarts. A very simple etymology for its name - Alohomora comes from a word in West Africa that translates to "friendly."
