Tron: Ares lets the programs run wild in the real world. One of them develops self-awareness, which is a question that will linger for some time. However, these questions may be answered in the future, as the film leaves room for the story to continue.

The film is made around the same budget as Tron: Legacy (2010) and has managed $4.8 million in previews. Deadline speculates that the film needs "a very big Saturday and Sunday" to go around the $40 million range.

Joachim Rønning comes to direct the film, becoming the third director in the franchise. Jared Leto stars as Ares, the lead of the movie, alongside Greta Lee as Eve Kim, Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger, Jodie Turner-Smith as Athena, and more.

With the film also come a lot of easter eggs from the franchise, so we will look at a few that the keen-eyed fans might already be talking about.

Sark

The second antagonist from the first film in the franchise returns in Tron: Ares, appearing at the end of the film. When Evan Peters' Julian Dillinger comes in contact with Dillinger's disc, the program engulfs him, leaving the viewers with a hint that he might return for a future story.

Dumont

Fans might remember The Sphinx-like creature in the Grid. Well, he doesn't appear here, but his name does. He is called Dumont and is the Guardian Tower in the first film. Eve (Greta Lee) lands in a dumpster following a crash, where we can see the sign belonging to a company called Dumont, a name we can also find in the second film, where Sam Flynn lives. The name is a reference to the character only.

Bit

Bit, whom we saw communicating in "yes" and "no," returns for a small part in the movie. He is the one guiding Ares when Jared Leto's character enters Kevin Flynn's Grid.

A Tron cosplayer

When we are watching the third Tron film, it makes sense to see a Tron cosplayer in the film. He appears during the game panel in the film. It was also a good decision to include this part, as we got to see a sequel after over a decade.

The Ducati bike

A Ducati bike similar to the one we saw in Tron: Legacy appears in Tron: Ares. While Sam and Quorra ride that bike in the former film, it is Jared Leto who rides the bike in the latest movie. This might also be a hint for a future story, as Ares goes on a quest to find beings like him, and he mentioned Sam and Quorra's names among them too.

Kevin Flynn himself appears in Tron: Ares

Jeff Bridges, who played the original protagonist in the first film, returns in the film. An aspect of Flynn on Flynn's Grid had a conversation with Ares and gave him the permanence code, as it is 'fascinated' by his desire to live.

The original Grid

We have come a long way when it comes to CGI and VFX in movies. Tron: Ares makes some good use of the technology but there's a moment in the film when the CGI goes back to the good ol' days. When Ares is uploaded to Flynn's server, everything goes retro. A fun callback to the original film.
