“A fan of the whole genre, man”: Marlon Wayans talks about the movies Scary Movie 6 might spoof

The original gang from the first Scary Movie will be returning in Scary Movie 6. Marlon Wayans, who plays the fan-favorite Shorty Meeks, may have hinted at which films Scary Movie 6 will parody in the next instalment.

In a recent interview with ComicBook, he name-dropped a few films, saying,

"I’m just a fan of the whole genre, man. I Know What You Did Last Summer may have something in there. I think the Scream franchise is always a great one. I think Heretic was a wonderful film. Longlegs. Get Out. Nope. There are just so many great horror films to pull from that we plan on having a field day. Sinners."

Wayans is developing the film with his brother Keenen Ivory Wayans, who directed the first film, which became a superhit. Commercially speaking, it made $278 million at the global box office against a mere $19 million budget.

After the success, it bloomed into a full-fledged franchise with four more films. Overall, the franchise has generated around $900 million at the global box office, with the latest film making the lowest of all, $78.6 million globally. That’s the only film in the series that got stuck in double digits (in millions).

Scary Movie 6 is scheduled to release on July 12, 2026. Other than Marlon Wayans, Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell, Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, and Shawn Wayans as Ray Wilkins will reprise their roles in the movie.

While Shawn and Marlon were part of the first two films, Anna Faris and Regina Hall went on to play their parts in the third and fourth films.

While the return of the original cast raises hopes of reviving the franchise, Scary Movie 5 performed poorly both at the box office and with critics. It’s worth noting that this same cast also appeared in the franchise’s second-lowest-grossing film.
