A House of Dynamite: Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba’s Netflix thriller lands strong Rotten Tomatoes ratings

Two-time Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow's The House of Dynamite is here, and it landed some juicy ratings on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. As of this writing, it sits with a fresh 90% score on the platform after its premiere at the 82nd annual Venice International Film Festival. That score means it joins the likes of top movies this year, including Sinners, Sorry, Baby, Black Bag, and more.

According to the film's synopsis (via Rotten Tomatoes),

"When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond."

The critics have called A House of Dynamite "a powerfully rendered tale," "a feat of adrenaline-pumping editing and cinematography," an "unbelievably stressful nuclear disaster movie," and more.

A House of Dynamite marks Bigelow's eleventh film as a director; her other films include The Loveless (1981), Near Dark (1987), Blue Steel (1990), Point Break (1991), Strange Days (1995), The Weight of Water (2000), K-19: The Widow Maker (2002), The Hurt Locker (2008), Zero Dark Thirty (2012), and Detroit (2017). She won her two Oscars for The Hurt Locker, which was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director.

When will A House of Dynamite be released?

A House of Dynamite is set for a limited theatrical release in the United Kingdom, which is on October 3, 2025. After that, it will be released in the United States on October 10, 2025, before finally arriving at the streaming platform Netflix on October 24, 2025.

Netflix dropped the film's teaser today

The film's synopsis gives us a gist of what the story is about, and a few first-look images were released by Netflix recently, which cleared the picture a bit. Today, it dropped its first teaser ahead of the release, and now we can see a clearer picture of it.

It begins with an aerial shot of the Washington Monument, with a red sun behind it, giving a scenic feel. Nobody really talks in there, though we cannot really tell even if somebody did, as it is covered by a narration.

For most of the teaser, we can feel the tensions in the office, on the faces, and more. That tells us the whole world will be waiting for good news, hoping that they will be saved from an incoming nuclear threat that's already in the air. We can just hope it will be neutralized in time.

Who is in the film?

A House of Dynamite comes with an ensemble cast, with Rebecca Ferguson playing Captain Olivia Walker. She was last seen in Dune: Part Two (2024) and will be next seen in Mercy, The Magic Faraway Tree, and The Immortal Man.

Idris Elba will be the President of the United States. Just recently, he played the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom opposite John Cena, who was the POTUS in it, in Heads of State (read the film's ending explainer here).
