A Minecraft movie brought the game's popular characters to the big screen and gave the kind of family-friendly entertainment the film distributors had been waiting for for a while. It worked in the movie's favor since it earned significantly well at the box office. The fans, who were initially skeptical about this adaptation, eventually bought tickets to watch it in theaters. So, it helped this popcorn flick achieve even bigger heights of success.

While it's still out in theaters, there is already chatter about its sequel. It is hardly a surprise considering the game's popularity for many years. However, since it is a sandbox game with no clear storyline on its own, gamers are open to speculating which direction A Minecraft Movie's sequel will head into. It can go in a number of directions, and much of it will be at the service of the whimsy of its characters, who enter a magical Overworld against their choice.

The central character among them is Steve, who desperately tries to return to his life back in the real world. A Minecraft movie essentially revolves around this arc. While he fulfills his goal in the end, the movie opens the door for a potential sequel, especially with Steve's arc. Let's break down what a sequel can show Steve doing in the future.

Steve's arc in A Minecraft Movie sets it up for sequel ideas: Here's how

A Minecraft Movie follows Steve, joined by Natalie, Henry, Garrett, and Dawn, getting sucked into the game's Overworld through a portal. Steve seeks everyone's help to get back home and uses all their skills and smarts to achieve what he wants from the get-go. Much like the customizable game, the movie is filled with all sorts of block-shaped things and characters. So, Steve's journey sums up how gamers try to understand aspects of the game and find a way to meet their goals.

One of these block-shaped things shown in the movie is Steve's armor. It makes sense in the game, considering its inherent format. While it looks odd in the movie, Jack Black and the people behind the scenes somehow make it seem fun for the audience. In Steve's final fight (in the movie) against Malgosha and her piglins, he wears a diamond armor that is considered the strongest one (in the game). Keeping that in mind, a potential sequel can show Steve putting on the other types of armor to beat further threats in his way. He can also look for stronger armor, like a netherite one.

Even though the post-credit scene of A Minecraft Movie shows Steve's return to his real world, it hints at his possible return to the Otherworld. After all, he crosses paths with Alex, who now owns his house. Alex is one of the characters from the game, defined as genderless. So, the future entry in this franchise can use these parts of Steve's arc to build another creative narrative. A sequel can show Steve exploring more biomes and coming across more mobs from the game in the Overworld with his childlike fascination and with the help of a few more adventurers.
