James Cameron's blue world, which will be mixed with the color red in Avatar: Fire and Ash, has a new trailer. It's more tense than the first one, which was released a month ago and gave us a glimpse into the Avatar: Way of Water sequel. A war of the tribes has erupted at large, which was already confirmed, but we now have some beautiful visuals, too.
It is the third film in the series, which has collectively grossed over $5 billion globally, and the first film sits as the highest-grossing movie of all time as of this writing.
Among the returning actors are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Kate Winslet, Sigourney Weaver, and more. They will be joined by some new names, including Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis.
Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer gives a hint at the Na'vi tribe's past
The film's trailer begins with Oona Chaplin, who is playing Varang, the leader of the Na'vi tribe. She gives a brief about what happened to her people. "Fire came from the mountains," which destroyed their community. No one (she specifies Eywa, the Great Mother) came for their help.
According to Avatar: Fire and Ash's official synopsis (via IMDb)
"Jake and Neytiri's family grapples with grief after Neteyam's death, encountering a new, aggressive Na'vi tribe, the Ash People, who are led by the fiery Varang, as the conflict on Pandora escalates and a new moral focus emerges."
While we will see an all-out war on Pandora, this isn't the end of the line. After this, we have two more films in line, currently titled simply as Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, set for release on December 21, 2029, and December 19, 2031, respectively. All of them will be directed by James Cameron.
For Avatar: Fire and Ash, James Cameron was more focused on different cultures and wanted to "evolve beyond the 'all humans are bad, all Na'vi are good' paradigm," as he told Empire magazine earlier this year.
As of this writing, Avatar: Fire and Ash is set for a release on December 19, 2025, with 20th Century Studios distributing it. The film is made on a $250 million budget, which is lower than the last film ($350 million) but slightly bigger than the first ($237 million).
Critically speaking, the first film in the series holds an 81% score at the review aggregator platform Rotten Tomatoes, and the second holds a 76% score.
