A24's war film Warfare is now making its streaming release on HBO Max on 12th September 2025.
The film had its theatrical release on 11th April 2025. Helmed and penned by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland, this film is based on the lived memories and experiences of Ray Mendoza during the time he was in the Iraq War, whilst serving in the United States Navy.
Its official synopsis goes as follows:
Written and directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland (Civil War, 28 Days Later), Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs on a surveillance mission gone wrong in insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare and brotherhood, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.

Upon the theatrical release of Warfare, it received rave reviews. The film also has an impressive rating of 7.2/10 at IMDb and 93% at Rotten Tomatoes. So for all the fans of the film, and also the ones who have missed watching the film on the big screen, you do not need to worry!

Ray Mendoza, in an interview with The Guardian, revealed the director duo's vision and approach to making the film. He stated:
"We interviewed as many of the guys as we could and took a detective-like approach to slotting everyone’s memories together. Forensic is a word we’ve been using a lot. We wanted to make a really honest film, so if it didn’t exist in someone’s memory, it did not go into the story. Memories were our bumpers."
