Abandoned Man: Release date news, cast details and more about the upcoming Turkish drama on Netflix

Turkish director Çagri Vila Lostuvali, known for her work on television, will soon return with Abandoned Man (original title: Metruk Adam), a feature film starring Mert Ramazan Demir and Ada Erma in key roles.

In the last few years, the director has worked on several TV shows, more recently on the historical drama series, Shahrazad: Tears of İstanbul. Previously, she has been the director on shows like The Stickman, The Innocents, For My Son, and Revenge, among others.

Abandoned Man marks her feature directorial debut, as per her IMDb credits. Murat Uyurkulak and Deniz Madanoglu have written the screenplay. The film's official plot logline, per IMDb, reads,

"After years behind bars, a tormented man tries to rebuild his life, but an unexpected bond unveils a shocking truth that could change his life forever."

Onur Güvenatam is the producer on this project, backed by the Turkish production company, OGM Pictures. With Netflix as a distributor, the Turkish film seems to be in safe hands for its upcoming release.

When will Abandoned Man be released? All the details we know so far

Abandoned Man will be a part of Netflix's release slate in August 2025. It will debut on August 22 on the streaming giant.

It will join a string of Turkish movies available to watch on Netflix. In the past, the streamer also offered a home to a plethora of genres through projects like My Father's Violin (2022), The Festival of Troubadours (2022), Cici (2022), Art of Love (2024), In Good Hands (2022), and In Good Hands 2 (2024).

What is the plot of Abandoned Man?

The story of this Turkish drama follows a man who went to prison as a child for a crime he did not commit. He becomes a fall guy to save the real criminal from getting punished. Years later, he returns home, resentful. He does not want to do any more favors for anyone. It all changes when he is left to take care of his young niece.

The plot synopsis, per Netflix, reads,

"Baran, a man whose broken soul even time itself can’t repair, wants to build a new life after serving a sentence for a crime committed by his brother, a burden placed upon him by his family. His life has never been easy, and it will not change after he is released from prison."

It further says,

"The repair shop he wants to open to hold onto his dreams and life, the accident his family experienced, and his niece Lidya, who breaks down his walls, will help him rebuild his new life. Despite every mishap, his struggle for Lidya and himself will mend Baran's life and his damaged childhood."

Based on what we know so far, the Netflix release will follow Baran's emotional story as he tries to survive in the world outside of prison while trying to take care of his niece.
