American Sweatshop ending explained: Real identity of the interviewer revealed

American Sweatshop is a film in the mystery thriller genre.

Uta Briesewitz is the director, while Matthew Nemeth has written the script. Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana are the producers. It premiered in the Narrative spotlight category at the 2025 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival. The film was released theatrically on September 19, 2025. American Sweatshop is about Daisy Moriarty (played by Lili Reinhart), who works as a content moderator for a social media platform. One day, she sees a video of someone practising violence. Daisy decides to find out the culprit behind it.

How does American Sweatshop end?

Towards the end of American Sweatshop, Daisy is slowly recovering from the incident. She is studying for the forthcoming nursing exams as she plans not to do content moderation. Daisy has also been seeing a guy for a while. One night, they are in the room when a loud noise disturbs their sleep.

She bangs harder in response and screams at her neighbour. Her boyfriend panics and loses complete interest in her. Daisy then decides to end their relationship. Later on, Paul comes across a video of an animal being abused. It disturbs him, and he leaves for home. He eventually gives Daisy the man's name she has been looking for. Later, Daisy finds out the similarities between beef and human flesh.

So she starts practising putting nails through a steak. A video of her assaulting a colleague is shown to her at work. Daisy tries attending the work therapy, but it doesn't lead to anything. She finally gives her notice period and starts focusing on the exams. Daisy eventually leaves that job.

The last scene of American Sweatshop features Daisy getting a call for a job interview. We are not shown the man's face who is interviewing her. She tells him that violence can be answered with violence and she'd rather destroy the world if she can't better it.

The man who's interviewing him says he disagrees with her views. In response, Daisy says she expected such an answer. The camera reveals that it's the same man who has been terrorising her. She passed the exams to confront him. It was never about becoming a nurse. Earlier, she had said that she would find peace after looking him in his eyes. The last shot is of Daisy looking into the camera.

We can only guess that she might have some sinister plans for this man who has been terrorising her. The film ends without a clear resolution and leaves several questions unanswered. It's up to the viewers to guess Daisy's next move.
