Americana: Release date news, cast details and more about the much-anticipated upcoming crime thriller starring Sydney Sweeney

After a couple of years of its premiere, the Sidney Sweeney starrer Americana is finally hitting theaters this year. Lionsgate dropped a trailer yesterday. Other than Sweeney, Paul Walter Hauser, Halsey, Eric Dane, and more are in the film.

The film was first premiered in 2023 at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival and Lionsgate acquired it rights the following year. Now it is set to release in August this year.

Tony Tost is in for the first time in a writer-director role. Before this, he worked on television shows where he was a showrunner of an American period drama, Damnation. His other projects include Longmire, The Terror, and Poker Face.

The film is set for release on August 22, 2025. There are no details about it coming to streaming platforms. Lionsgate is distributing it.

The film's synopsis, according to IMDb, reads:

"When a rare Lakota Ghost Shirt falls onto the black market in a small South Dakota town, the lives of local outsiders and outcasts violently intertwine. Some seek fortune and some seek personal freedom, while others simply want to return the artifact to its proper tribal home."

The trailer has already given us the chaos that will go in there, so expect some violence, though that's a lot of fun, we are telling you.

The trailer begins with Sydney Sweeney in a conversation with Paul Walter Hauser and shares what she will do with one million dollars in hand. We are then introduced to the artifact in focus, the Ghost Shirt.

Halsey, who plays Mandy Starr in the film steals the show. It seems like she somehow has possession of the Ghost Shirt, but we don't know if she stole it or what, but she is a badass character for sure. The rest of it shows people preparing and going after that artifact.
