Amy Adams lands a new role in Star Wars: Starfighter alongside Ryan Gosling

Amy Adams and Aaron Pierre are the latest Hollywood stars to join the Shawn Levy-directed Star Wars: Starfighter, alongside the previously announced cast of Ryan Gosling, Mia Goth, and Matt Smith.

Ryan Gosling is headlining this project, as someone who is supposed to protect a young charge from the evil forces in the galaxy far, far away. Mia Goth and Matt Smith have reportedly joined the cast as the villains in this new film. It is said to be a standalone adventure in the franchise, not connected to any previous Star Wars movies or characters, including the Skywalker saga.

The rest of the new Star Wars: Starfighter cast includes Flynn Gray, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Simon Bird. Gray will play the young charge that Gosling's character will be responsible for.

What is working on Star Wars: Starfighter?

Lucasfilm announced the new cast members of Star Wars: Starfighter, as it revealed that production on this movie has officially commenced with Shawn Levy at the helm. Upon the announcement, Levy shared a heartfelt note about this responsibility as he takes on the challenge of spearheading the next chapter in the franchise. He said,

“I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on “Star Wars: Starfighter.” From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible “Star Wars” galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally."

He continued,

“'Star Wars' shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off is the thrill of a lifetime.”

Levy is also a producer on this project, alongside Kathleen Kennedy. Ryan Gosling, Mary McLaglen, Dan Levine, and Josh McLaglen serve as executive producers.

Star Wars: Starfighter marks Levy's return to directorial duties after working on Marvel's 2024 blockbuster, Deadpool & Wolverine. It broke the record of R-rated films to be the highest-grossing in the list, earning over $1.338 billion against a $200 million budget. So, it brought the Night at the Museum and Free Guy director back to the limelight.

The plot details of Star Wars: Starfighter haven't been revealed yet, but Jonathan Tropper is in charge of the screenplay. Tropper previously collaborated with Levy on the 2022 sci-fi comedy, The Adam Project, and the 2014 dark comedy, This Is Where I Leave You. He was also the creator behind the Apple TV+ series Your Friends & Neighbors and the HBO/Cinemax series Banshee.

Amy Adams is the six-time Oscar-nominated star of Arrival (2016), The Master (2013), Her (2013), Nocturnal Animals(2016), Enchanted (2007), and more. Before Star Wars, she was also a part of the DC franchise, as Lois Lane in the Zack Snyder-led DCEU projects.

Joining her is an upcoming DC star, Aaron Pierre, who is all set to play John Stewart in DC's Green Lantern series, Lanterns. He rose to fame through his lead performance in Jeremy Saulnier's 2024 crime thriller, Rebel Ridge.

Simon Bird (The Inbetweeners), Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen), and Jamael Westman (The Essex Serpent) are British actors, with the former two known more for their comedic work. Flynn Gray, the young star joining them, has most notably starred in the Irish thriller series, Borderline, and the horror film, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2.
