Back in 1977, the legendary journey across the vastness of a 'far, far away' galaxy started when George Lucas' Star Wars franchise hit the ignition button. Ever since, it has been a rollercoaster ride with multiple movies, TV shows, comics, video games and what not - a legacy that will probably live till the end of time.
One such entry in the much-loved epic space opera saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, was released back in 2015 as a part of Episode VII under the sequel trilogy. Rolling back through the pages of time to November 2015, the Star Wars cast appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and shared how they found out about their roles in J.J. Abrams' The Force Awakens.
It is at this time, when lead star Adam Driver reminisced about his casting call, saying:
"It was the last day of the second season of Girls and I got a call, 'Do you wanna meet JJ and talk about Star Wars?'"
Star Wars casts' heartwarming stories about joining The Force Awakens reflect on how big the franchise is
When Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast were asked (on Jimmy Kimmel Live) about how they found out that they had been selected to be a part of the epic journey, franchise legend the late Carrie Fisher stole the show by (jokingly) saying:
"I was like 19."
Fisher was introduced in the 1977 movie A New Hope in the role of Princess Leia Organa and in the 2015 film she reprised her part - a chronicle that will resonate forever among Star Wars fans! However, young talent Daisy Ridley joined her in the conversation and shared her memory of how she came to know about her Star Wars role.
As she recalled in the interview, she was 'at the theatre' and was constantly trying to reach out to director J.J. Abrams and was also not able to concentrate on the first half of the movie (that she was watching). In a tone of amusement, Ridley further added:
"Coz I didn't know how to call the US. I had to Google it, all sorts of things!"
She was utterly thrilled to hear the unbelievable news and went back to watch the second half of the movie (without any prior knowledge whatsoever). Funniest part, Ridley was also not allowed to share the news with person she went to theatre with and had to keep it a secret!
On the other hand, the news of his Star Wars casting broke to Kylo Ren star Adam Driver while he was filming Girls Season 2, and it was his 'last day' on set (as he mentioned in the Jimmy Kimmel Live interview). As he jokingly added, he took time to share it with his wife as well.
John Boyega, who plays the role of Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, shared his story where he mentioned that he had to wait for almost 'seven months' till J.J. Abrams reached out to him through an email reading:
"Come to Mayfair."
He further added that he met Abrams as discussed, and his part was then made official. To quote his happy moment:
"It was a good day!"
Boyega also mentioned how his father reacted on finding out about his Star Wars roles, and the next moment, after showing his excitement for his son, asked back:
"What is Star Wars?"
The interview with Jimmy Kimmel not only portrays the emotions of the casts who are a part of Star Wars but it also speaks highly of the success of the sci-fi franchise. Getting a part in such a big project is a mammoth task and the way the stars share their experiences, it is quite evident.
