Anna Kendrick's vlogger, who also became a part-time private detective, Stephanie Smothers, in A Simple Favor, is back for Another Simple Favor, and so does Blake Lively's con artist, Emily, aka Hope McLanden (we'll use this name for the rest of this explainer). Last we checked, she was in jail, but this time it's her sister. We'll begin to see into that in a minute.

Though we miss Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin in the film—whose part was taken by director Paul Feig's own Artingstall's Brilliant London Dry Gin—the two ladies bonded over the former in the first movie. But they are reunited again, so cheers to that.

While the first film was more focused on Stephanie's pursuit of the truth about Emily, which she eventually uncovers when she discovers that she is one of the triplets, Charity, Hope (this one), and Faith. We have to say, faith kept hope alive here. Well, not really—hope kept itself alive by killing faith. Sorry, we had to say it.

Another Simple Favor shocks us with some Charity

The biggest shocker in Another Simple Favor comes as Charity McLanden, Hope's sister, who was presumed dead during childbirth. However, she is alive and well and a better con artist than Hope could have hoped for to become herself.

Hope's aunt and her mother Margaret's sister, Linda (Allison Janney), had planned a scheme, as the film reveals that this evil aunt has taken one of the triplets with her without the mother's knowledge. Poor Margaret believed she was dead, as her sister told her.

Both Margaret and Charity end up at Hope's wedding with Dante, who belongs to a powerful mafia family (yeah, Stephanie's there too—we haven't forgotten her). Turns out, the aunt is there to take Hope's wealth, which she ended up with in the last film, as part of her retirement plan.

Hope isn't really planning to do so, so Linda throws some Charity into the game, and now she is to replace Hope as the bride. Dante is killed amid this (evil aunt has everything planned), and Stephanie is framed as a murderer, courtesy of Charity.

Charity finally does some charity

Things take a turn in Another Simple Favor when Hope, Stephanie, Charity, and Linda enter a confrontation on a cliff. The latter two want to kill the former two—at least Linda wants to. Charity then accepts her admiration for her sister and doesn't want to kill her sister, and neither does she let her aunt do that.

A struggle then follows, where the aunt ends up with a gunshot wound, another courtesy of Charity. And here's another simple favor from her: She pushes Linda off the cliff. That's some brutal death.

But that's not the end of it—Charity still wants to kill Stephanie, but then there is still Hope, who does something that makes her sister happy. We will keep this exciting spoiler with us so you can see it and enjoy the moment.

As a part of this story, Charity does some real charity and gives herself to the police by taking the blame for her sister's crimes on her head, and Hope now walks free. Now they have become real partners in crime, it seems.
