Another Simple Favor brought Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick back together to solve another murder mystery. However, instead of the sleek and isolated urban spaces, director Paul Feig decided to do something different this time. Those who have seen the film would know revolves around Emily (Lively), who invites Stephanie (Kendrick) to her second marriage.

The last time they crossed paths, things did not end on good terms. Stephanie got Emily arrested for the murder of her sister. Things get even darker this time around since Stephanie isn't just an aspiring vlogger, but a celebrity, who has a new book on its way. However, just when things start getting better for her, Emily returns to her life and expects her to be on the Italian island of Capri. That's where most of the film is shot.

Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis's script says that this is because Emily's fiancé lives in Capri. However, there's a reason why it is Capri out of all the places on Earth. As it turns out, director Paul Feig wanted to shoot one of his movies on this scenic island. He told TheWrap,

“I’ve always wanted to make a movie in Capri because we go there all the time, my wife and I, but I didn’t know what it would be. Would be a wedding movie, a rom-com, a romance, what? And so, we were kind of talking about taking them out of their natural habitat.”

But why Another Simple Favor in Capri in particular? He told Indiewire about his inspiration behind Emily's lavish wedding ceremony.

"I got inspired by Giovanna Battaglia, who’s the fashion editor of French Vogue, who got married to some rich hedge fund guy there. They took over the whole island. And I was like, “I want to recreate that wedding.”

And so he did! In the same interview, Feig revealed that Emily's wedding was shot in the same place where Battglia's wedding was.

Much like the first dark comedic thriller with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, Another Simple Favor is full of twists and turns. Director Paul Feig thought that Capri was a great place to shoot these scenes since it offers a natural contrast with its gorgeous locations.

“[I loved] the idea of doing something that has a lot of twists and turns in the most beautiful setting where everything’s colorful and beautiful and bright and sunny. It’s a place where you go, ‘Well, nothing bad could ever happen here’ — and lots of bad things happen.”

Filming in Capri

Capri is filled with places that convey an elegant sophistication in the lives of Emily and her fiancé. So, the film uses actual locations like Lido del Faro, Villa Jovis, and Villa Adriana to capture the natural beauty of this island as the backdrop for the devilish schemes of its characters. They roamed around or just visited these places during their time on the island.

Another significant location the film used is Piazzetta di Capri, a city square that Stephanie passes by while following Emily through the streets. Unlike the other locations, there is more hustle and bustle at this location. So, there is very little room to hide yourselves as Stephanie hopes to, or the FBI agent she meets.

Besides these landmarks, Another Simple Favor also uses the Grand Hotel Quisisana to shoot Emily and her fiancé's wedding reception. It offers a sublime and sun-bathed architecture with sharp edges, which complements the film's narration. Eventually, Faro di Punta Carena, around the lighthouse, was reportedly used to film Emily's wedding.

Filming in Rome

In the credits, Another Simple Favor mentions Rome's Cinecittà film studio as one of its locations. However, a few other parts of Rome were also used in the film. The Wrap points out Villa dei Quintili as one of the filming locations. In addition to that, Trevi Fountain was used to shoot the final moments of the film, when Emily meets her fiance's mother, who spills the beans on her family's past.

Another Simple Favor is available to stream on Prime Video.
