Apple's Being Heumann adds five to cast as film gears up to tell landmark disability rights story

Five new cast members are joining Apple's feature film Being Heumann, including Antwan Tolliver, Michael Patrick Thornton, Daniel Durant, Roberta Colindrez, and Jon Beavers, as reported by Deadline.

The fresh, incredible cast joins actors Mark Ruffalo, Dylan O'Brien, Madeline Delp, Ray Fisher, and Rob Delaney. Helmed by Siân Heder, who is prominent for her directorial work in films and series such as Tallulah (2016), Little America (2020-2022), and the Oscar and BAFTA-winning film, CODA (2021).

Being Heumann is derived from a book penned by renowned disability rights activist, the late Judith Heumann, 'Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist.'

A story of hope and resistance for humanity, the film looks into the memorable protest headed by Judy Heumann in the year 1977 for a span of 28 days straight, which was groundbreaking as it challenged the broken systems of government and power seeped into prejudice and exclusion.

Its synopsis, as per IMDb, goes as follows:

"In 1977, disability rights activist Judy Heumann leads a historic 28-day occupation of San Francisco's Federal Building, uniting protesters in a fight for accessibility laws and equal rights."

1) Roberta Colindrez as Joni Breves

Actor Roberta Colindrez joins the cast of Being Heumann in the role of Joni Breves.

The actor's previous acting credits include Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance (2014), I Love Dick (2016-2017), Robot (2019), Ms. White Light (2019), Vida (2019-2020), Unidentified Objects (2022), Cassandro (2023), etc.

2) Jon Beavers as Jim Pechin

Playwright and actor Jon Beavers, whose acting credits on screen include Bel-Air (2022), Sugar (2024), Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 and 2 (2024), Paradise (2025), etc., joins the cast in the role of Jim Pechin.

3) Daniel Durant as Steve McCleeland

Daniel Durant, who is well known for his work on both stage and screen, essays the role of Steve McCleeland in Being Heumann.

Some of Durant's screen appearances include Switched at Birth (2013-2017), You (2019), and Florida Man (2023). In fact, in this film, he once again collaborates with Siân Heder, as Durant had starred in her film CODA as well.

4) Antwan Tolliver as Brad Lomax

Actor and model Antwan Tolliver, who is also starring in Bill Vigil's Gimme My Money, joins the cast, embodying the role of the historical figure Brad Lomax. A part of the Black Panther Party, he was a disability rights and civil rights activist.

5) Michael Patrick Thornton as Ed Roberts

Theater director and actor Michael Patrick Thornton plays the role of the revolutionary figure in the history of disability rights, Ed Roberts.

Michael Patrick Thornton's prominent work on screen includes Private Practice (2009-2011), The Exorcist (2016), The Red Line (2019), The Good Doctor (2022-2023), and NCIS (2023), to name a few.
