Country music duo Maddie & Tae have gone their separate ways after 15 years of partnership. This is because Taylor “Tae” Dye Kerr wants to focus on motherhood, while Maddie Marlow Font wishes to start a solo career.Maddie & Tae exclusively confirmed their split to PEOPLE during a December 2025 interview. Maddie said:“We’re leaving this so open-ended because, you know, we might make another record one day. We might go do some tour dates one day. But just in this season, it doesn't feel aligned for us to do it together.”Tae, in turn, said, “Absolutely,” seemingly agreeing with her partner. She added:“It's been such a hard, hard — honestly, heartbreaking — decision. This was the only dream I've ever had since I exited the womb. I had a particular vision of creating music and singing. When we met at 15, that's what we set out to do, and we're both just so grateful that we've had the journey that we've had. Babies in your family — there’s nothing that tops it. … Our goal was never to be the biggest stars in the world. Our goal was to make music that mattered and impacted people, and we accomplished that…”She also mentioned choosing to charter the working mom life and venturing into other genres of music other than country, including R&B, soul, and gospel music.Kerr added that success always meant being able to balance a healthy home life and career. However, now, she needs to choose her family and become the “best wife and mother and homemaker.” However, Tae is looking forward to making guest appearances in the studio for Maddie and contributing to her husband’s projects.For those unaware, Maddie & Tae met through their vocal coach in Dallas, Texas, in 2010, when they were both 15. Since then, they have been together and have given hits, including Girl in a Country Song and Die From a Broken Heart. Maddie & Tae will appear together in their final tour in mid-June 2026. However, they refuse to call it a “farewell tour” or this hiatus a “breakup” as that was far too “dramatic” for them.Instead, Maddie & Tae want to be remembered as strong, independent, loving women who were “embarking on separate journeys” but were still very much “together.”
