Avatar: Fire and Ash was released on December 19, 2025, after its premiere at the Dolby Theatre. The epic sci-fi film is a sequel to 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water. It's directed by James Cameron, who has also written the screenplay with Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno. Cameron and the late Jon Landau have produced the film under the banner of Lightstorm Entertainment. It's shot by Russell Carpenter while Simon Franglen is the composer. Here's the official synopsis as per IMDb:

Jake and Neytiri's family grapples with grief after Neteyam's death, encountering a new, aggressive Na'vi tribe, the Ash People, who are led by the fiery Varang, as the conflict on Pandora escalates and a new moral focus emerges.

Let's explore how the film ends.

What is the plot of Avatar: Fire and Ash?

Avatar: Fire and Ash focuses on Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) as they are trying to cope with Neteyam's demise. Soon, they are confronted by an aggressive tribe of the Na'vi called the Ash. It's headed by Varang (Oona Chaplin), who has his plans for Pandora.

Towards the end of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the Sully family members plead to Tulkun to end their pacifist stance and fight against the humans. Jake meets Toruk to get him the title of Toruk Makto. This leads to the reunion of the Na'vi clans. The battle starts, and the Tulkun finally fight back against the invaders.

Quaritch and Varang show up to change the course. Kiri then tries to connect with Eywa, who is a goddess of Pandora. After Kiri's plea and Eywa's instructions, several aquatic animals show up to fight back against the invaders. This leads the RDA to flee Pandora. Audiences might get reminded of the first film, which had an identical ending.

Towards the end, Spider and Jake confront Quaritch while Neytiri fights with Varang. The latter was responsible for Ronal's murder. Neytiri manages to subdue Varang, but she manages to leave the region. Quaritch and Jake have an intense fight and are on the verge of killing each other. However, the two put their differences aside to save Spider as he falls from the hills. Quaritch then hints that he does not want to fight. When other members of Jake's family show up, he jumps off a cliff.

The film ends with a happy ending for the Sully family. But Varang is on the run and still poses a threat to everyone. Quaritch jumps from the cliff, but he might have managed to survive. Certain subplots have been resolved, like Eywa's trust in the girl as well as Tulkun's change of mind.

Cameron has stated that a fourth and fifth installment aren't guaranteed. But if Avatar: Fire and Ash manages to do well at the box office, we can expect him to continue the storyline and resolve other unanswered questions in the plot.
