Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released in different formats, including 2D, 3D HFR IMAX, 2D HFR, 3D HFR, 3D IMAX, and 4DX. Certain cinema halls will also make it available in 3D HFR format.

If the makers follow the tradition of Avatar: The Way of Water, we might get the film in formats such as 3D, 4K, HDR, 48fps HFR, as well as Dolby surround sound on an IMAX screen.

It depends on each individual on how they want to watch the film; it would be best advice to see it in 3D. This is mainly because Cameron had envisioned these stories in 3D formats. Other good options include PLF as well as IMAX 3D or even Dolby Cinema 3D.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is produced by Cameron and late Jon Landau under the banner of Lightstorm Entertainment. Its cast members include,

  • Sam Worthington as Jake Sully
  • Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri
  • Joel David Moore as Dr. Norm Spellman
  • Sigourney Weaver as Kiri
  • Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch
  • Oona Chaplin as Varang
  • Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge
  • Cliff Curtis as Tonowari
  • Britain Dalton as Lo'ak
  • Trinity Bliss as Tuktirey
  • Jack Champion as Miles Socorro, aka Spider

  • Kate Winslet as Ronal

The film is shot by Russell Carpenter, while Simon Franglen has composed the score. It's edited by Cameron, Stephen E. Rivkin, David Brenner, Nicolas de Toth, John Refoua, and Jason Gaudio.

Cameron has always been an advocate of experiencing his films on the big screen. In a 2022 interview with The New York Times, the filmmaker spoke about the re-release of his 2009 film.

“Young film fans never had the opportunity to see it in a movie theater. Even though they think they may have seen the film, they really haven’t seen it. And I was pleasantly surprised, not only at how well it holds up but how gorgeous it is in its remastered state.”

He added,

“We’ve got a turn of the world toward easy access in the home and that has to do a lot with the rise of streaming in general, and the pandemic, where we literally had to risk our lives to go to the movie theatre.”

20th Century Studios will be releasing Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19, 2025.
