Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theatres this year, on December 18, and Marvel has been releasing teaser trailers, each dedicated to a character.

The latest teaser released by Marvel is about the X-Men, and they will be returning in the upcoming film. It shows us Professor Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, with a short tease of Cyclops taking charge.

First look at the X-Men with Cyclops in charge in Avengers: Doomsday

The X-Men were confirmed to be returning in Avengers: Doomsday, but this is the first time we have seen any footage of it. The teaser opens with Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto saying:

"Death comes for us all."

It is followed by Professor X saying that it is all he knows for sure, and also says that it is not important if one is prepared to die, but who they would be when they close their eyes.

The teaser also shows us a name plaque for Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters before we get a look at Professor X moving in his wheelchair towards Magneto and joining hands, which tells us that the once friends will be working together again.

After that, we are shown a clip of Cyclops taking off his specialized visor that keeps his strong, uncontrollable red beam of energy in check, and letting it out to destroy something. He seems to be emitting a lot of his energy as he falls on his knees in a land that's already burning and screams as the red beam shoots out of his eyes.

The teaser ends with the line:

"The X-Men Will Return In Avengers: Doomsday"

Thus, we have now seen a glimpse of Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto, and James Marsden as Scott Summers aka Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday. Other than these characters, mutants Mystique, played by Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, played by Alan Cumming, and Remy LeBeau/Gambit, played by Channing Tatum, will appear in the film.

The teaser doesn't show us much, but tells us that Professor X and Erik will be working together, keeping their past issues aside. Their powers will definitely play a big role in fighting Doctor Doom.

The other thing the teaser confirms is that Cyclops is not just going to be Professor X's reliable second-in-command, but will be taking charge on the battlefield as well. He is a very powerful mutant because his powers are kinetic energy from another dimension, making him an essential asset in the fight against Doctor Doom, and we have been shown evidence of that in the trailer itself.

The film is directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, and written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers are the producers. The production companies behind the film are Marvel Studios and AGBO. It will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theatres on December 18, 2026.
