Ben Rathbun, known for ‘90 Day Fiancé,’ passes away at 55 after a battle with cancer

Ben Rathbun, the alum of the reality series 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, died on Monday, May 19, 2025, at his home in Greencastle, Indiana, as reported by TMZ. Ben had been battling stage 4 stomach cancer since the end of 2024.

As per a family source, Ben was surrounded by his family at the time of his death. Ben’s story was featured in Season 5 of the American series 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, alongside his then-girlfriend, now wife, Mahogany Roca. The season had premiered back in 2017.

Ben Rathbun died on Monday morning at his residence in Indiana. As per TMZ, Mahogany Roca, who is Ben’s wife and whom he had married after the reality show, was also by his side at the time of his death.

Ben had met Mahogany back in 2017 for the reality TV series. At the time, Ben was 52 years old, divorced, and a father of four children, while Mahogany was 22 years old. Many people, including Ben’s family members, believed that Mahogany was misleading Ben, as she would not take his calls during their courtship. However, that belief was proven wrong when the two got married in Peru.

In one of the episodes of 90 Day Diaries in February 2024, Ben revealed that he and Mahogany were married. This is what he had said, as per InTouch:

''Our civil ceremony was just brilliant, I could not believe how beautiful it was. But we are still planning on having a religious ceremony.''

He had also spoken about the transition they were going through. He said:

''We’re just going through a really difficult transition. I’ve gone about six months without a really good job and bills have been piling up of course. Things are extremely tight now and I’m doing everything I can right now to pay all the bills and for my next trip to Peru.''

Ben and Mahogany had met online and dated for three months before they met in person on the reality show. The couple got engaged in August 2022. In March of the same year, Ben was arrested after he failed to appear in court for a probation violation hearing.

Ben was originally arrested in 2020 for driving under the influence and with a suspended license. In 2021, he was given 18 months of probation, as per US Weekly. In a statement to InTouch, Ben had said that he missed the appointment because he was moving states, and the documents were delivered to the wrong address. He said:

''This was my fault because I needed to make sure I was getting all notices, but by the time I found out, it was too late, and I missed my appointment. So a warrant was issued for my arrest. I immediately drove 14 hours and turned myself in to the court and spent a night in jail.''

As of now, Mahogany Roca has not made any statement regarding the passing of her husband, Ben Rathbun.
