Billy Idol celebrates his 70th birthday: Singer swoons over granddaughters tapping to his 1983 hit

Billy Idol celebrated his 70th birthday on Sunday, November 30, 2025. The legendary English rocker, known for his hit song Eyes Without a Face, spoke to DPA on November 28, just two days before his birthday, about his music, family, and being a grandfather.

According to Billy, he was happy with where his life is at the moment. He also expressed his adoration for his granddaughters, claiming he enjoyed being a grandpa. He revealed a special moment he had with 5-year-old Poppy to the news outlet.

“I remember Poppy first tapping her foot to Rebel Yell,” he proudly recounted. “The child doesn't get taught to tap its foot to music, it just does it. So I saw her tap her feet to some of my music for the first time, to 'Rebel Yell'. She was tapping her feet for the first time. So I've really enjoyed being a grandad.”

Although Billy Idol was never married, he has three children and three granddaughters. Recently, the rock legend celebrated Thanksgiving with his family.

He posted a picture of his family making a gingerbread house with the caption:

“Making gingerbread house @poppy.rebel @maryjane.rebel + cousins Happy Thanksgiving! I have a lot to be thankful for this year. We had a fantastic year. The album did really well and the tour, I was having the time of my life. -BFI.”

Billy Idol has also posted his granddaughter on his official Instagram on several occasions. In May, the Rebel Yell crooner celebrated his granddaughter Poppy’s fifth birthday. He posted a picture of her getting her eyes tested and wrote:

“@poppy.rebel having her eyes tested! It was her 5th bday on Wednesday 20th May Happy Birthday my sweet.”

In March, the musician shared an adorable photo of himself and Poppy resting after a playdate. He wrote:

“@poppy.rebel & Grandad after a Sunday PM play date at #kidspace.”

In 2022, the proud grandfather disclosed that his hit song Rebel Like You was inspired by Poppy’s trip to Vegas. He wrote:

“Song inspired by Poppy Rebel's Vegas trip to see Grandad perform! We love this song so much!”

Billy Idol might be 70 years old, but he isn't planning on stopping his music career anytime soon.

“We are doing what we love," he said. "A day may come when the audience isn't there, but at the moment, we're going strong.”

Billy Idol added:

“I don't get bored of singing 'Rebel Yell' or 'Eyes Without a Face' or any of the songs. They've got an energy that doesn't fade."
