Pierce Brosnan, who starred in Black Adam, stated that he would be open to reprising his role as Doctor Fate in the new DC Universe (DCU). Brosnan played Kent Nelson / Doctor Fate in Black Adam (2022). During a recent discussion with British GQ, he told them he heard they had big plans for his character. He said,

"I've heard that Dr Fate was going to have his own show, or his own movie. I’ve heard that he’s going to be in the next Superman."

He stated that he would be "definitely open" to taking on the role again. Meanwhile, James Gunn, who is now in charge of DC Studios, has indicated that Doctor Fate could factor into his new DCU world. Gunn has already stated that Man of Tomorrow will come out on July 9, 2027.

Why Pierce Brosnan wants to return?

Pierce Brosnan described Doctor Fate as more than just a hero with magic. He said the role has real weight and thought behind it. Also, he mentioned that he does not feel like he has to chase any more superhero roles. But he did make it clear that if DC Studios asks, and the story is good, he is open to it.

On the DCU side, having Doctor Fate back makes a lot of sense. Fate is one of DC's most powerful magic users. He belongs to a long legacy of heroes in the Justice Society in the comics. His return could bring more mystic, magical stories into Gunn's new universe.

The mural that Gunn mentioned is in the Hall of Justice in the new Superman movie. Gunn did not guarantee that every hero in the mural would show up, but he said some are already in the works. That is a strong sign that some of those characters, including Fate, may return. Also, bringing back an older, wiser Doctor Fate can help balance out the DCU. The universe already has big, powerful heroes. A mystical figure can add depth.

What might happen, and what is still unclear?

Right now, nothing is confirmed. Pierce Brosnan's words are hopeful, but not a guarantee. He is open, but did not say that he is definitely coming back. DC Studios has not officially announced Doctor Fate for Man of Tomorrow.

If he does return, there are different ways it might happen. One idea is that his Kent Nelson could come back to life in some way, maybe through the helmet or via magic. Another is that he could be a mentor to a new Doctor Fate. This would allow a mix of old and new magic heroes. Experts have talked about how powerful Fate is and how the helmet could help carry over his legacy. However, it is also possible that Fate might not have a large role.

On the other hand, DC Studios may decide not to bring him back at all. Even if Fate is in the mural, Gunn said not every hero will show up in films. Some figures are just symbolic or inspirational. So Fate's presence in the mural does not guarantee a big role. There is also the matter of Pierce Brosnan's age and availability. He is older now, and he may not want to commit to many more big action films. But he seems open to something smaller or meaningful.

For Pierce Brosnan, returning as Fate is more than just acting: it seems like something he cares about. He clearly likes the character and respects what Fate stands for. And he seems willing to come back if the story is right.

At this point, fans will just have to wait. Man of Tomorrow is set to release on July 9, 2027. If Fate does return, it may be one of the first big magical moves in Gunn's new era of DC. And for many, seeing Pierce Brosnan wear the Helmet of Nabu again would be a welcome return.
