Ryan Coogler fans may have to wait a little longer to see Black Panther 3 on screen as it is reportedly eyeing a February 2028 release date, with filming set to begin in 2027.
The update comes from Jeff Sneider behind The InSneider, who recently appeared in an episode of The Hot Mic podcast. He addressed a string of topics that have been trending in the news lately, including the updates on the James Bond movie, Superman 2, and more. That's where he spoke about the MCU and its upcoming slate:
"Black Panther 3, that's February 2028. That's going to start production at the top of 2027, and that will be in theaters in February 2028."
Marvel Studios has yet to make a formal announcement about Black Panther 3's release window. However, according to Words of Reel, Sneider's comments line up with a release date that the studio has previously announced. In the past, an X (formerly Twitter) user reportedly speculated that the movie would come out at the beginning of 2028.
What else do we know about Black Panther 3?
Apart from Jeff Sneider's comments, the latest update on Black Panther 3 comes from a Variety report, published on July 30, which discussed the studio's strategies for their future projects. It addressed the Blade or Deadpool revival projects that fans were hoping to see sooner rather than later. However, it may not be a priority at Marvel.
Unlike those projects, Black Panther 3, helmed by Ryan Coogler, is reportedly "creating excitement internally" at the studio. It will be the third time the filmmaker returns to the franchise that became a cultural touchstone shortly after its first film's release.

Since then, Coogler has been successful with Sinners, his supernatural horror film, which was a critical and commercial success. The filmmaker, the film's cast, and crew seem like the frontrunners at the upcoming Academy Awards. Later, with Black Panther 3, he is expected to collaborate with Denzel Washington, as per Washington's comments during an interview in November 2024.
In March 2025, Coogler addressed this topic on the Nightcap podcast. According to Variety, here's what he said:
"I’ve been dying to work with Denzel. I’m hoping we can make that happen. I’ve got every intention of working with him on that movie. As long as he’s interested, man, it’s going to happen. He’s a living legend and a great mentor for so many of us. He’s all about looking out for us, now."
What do we know about Marvel's future?

Marvel is reportedly focused on its release slate in 2026, which includes Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are set to reprise their respective roles, while Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is set to join the cast. Jon Bernthal is slated to star alongside Holland as Frank Castle.
Mark Ruffalo is also expected to return as Hulk, while Mister Negative is rumored to be a villain against them. The other two movies on the horizon for Marvel are Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
Black Panther 3 is rumored to premiere in February 2028.
