Paramount+ has released the trailer for the upcoming war docufilm, Bodyguard of Lies. It will release briefly in theaters on 12th September, followed by a streaming release on Paramount+ on 23rd September 2025.

It is helmed by the Oscar-nominated filmmaker and cinematographer Dan Krauss, who has previously directed documentaries including The Death of Kevin Carter: Casualty of the Bang Bang Club (2005), Extremis (2016), The Anthrax Attacks: In the Shadows of 9/11 (2022), to name a few.

Krauss' body of work has delved into addressing pertinent socio-political issues, and his documentaries have given us deeper insight into historical events as they uncover certain truths that have remained away from the public eye. Such is the forthcoming documentary. It showcases how the government of the U.S. led the public to believe in a certain narrative that was pushed by them during the Afghanistan War.

Bodyguard of Lies: Release date and streaming details, explored

Bodyguard of Lies will have a limited theatrical release in New York, on 12th September.

After its theatrical showcasing, the docufilm will release on the streaming platform, Paramount+, on 23rd September 2025. If you wish to catch the film in the comfort of your home, here is a brief guide to the subscription plans of the streaming platform, as per Business Insider:

  • If you wish to opt for an ad-free experience, you can choose either of these plans: $120 per year or $13 per month.
  • If you are okay with the advertisements, you can opt for the yearly plan of $60, or $8 on a monthly basis.

As per Deadline, the documentary is supported by renowned journalist and ex-president of CBS News Susan Zirinsky, along with prominent documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney. The helmer, Dan Krauss, is also joining them in producing the film.

The production companies involved in the project include Jigsaw Productions, The Washington Post, See It Now Studios, and Amblin Documentaries.
