By the end of the film, we discover many unsettling truths in this high-staking thriller. In such stressful times, Sage and Diego join together to fight Cin and Will, and in the end, Sage and Diego fortunately survive, and the murderous couple meet their end. The ending of Bone Lake: How Cin and Will intended to kill, but dug their own graves instead
In Bone Lake, Sage and Diego are a couple who are struggling not only to maintain their relationship, but also their financial situation. Diego had recently quit his job in order to pursue his dream of becoming a writer, so Sage, much to her dismay, took up a job as an editor for a news company to support him.
The couple is going through their own interpersonal distress and underlying issues, but they are trying to pull through. They book for a romantic weekend getaway at a faraway lakeside country house. However, it seems that the house has been doubly booked by a friendly couple, Cin and Will. In such unavoidable circumstances, both of the couples come to an agreement to live in the house peacefully.
However, problems arise when the other couple starts to behave oddly towards Diego and Sage. Will tells them about the history of the nearby Bone Lake, where, in the 1950s, a killer would murder people and get rid of his victims' bodies in the lake. In the meantime, the couple make sensual advances to Sage and Diego and attempt to seduce them. In the process, Sage realizes that this couple is trying to tear her and Diego apart.
Here comes the most disturbing twist. Cin and Will are actually Alice and Thomas Price, a sibling duo involved in an incestuous relationship. When they were young and their parents got caught up in an affair, they killed their own parents when they expressed strong disapproval towards their coupling. Since then, they have become enticing vulnerable couples to their property in order to mentally torture them and eventually murder them. They would make the couples test their loyalty and love at the edge of survival, through gaslighting and psychological abuse.
Will and Cin get an odd pleasure out of the suffering of other couples. So they orchestrate out this whole 'double-booking' situation, which seems to be like an inescapable situation for the innocent couples who arrive there.
However, this time, the homicidal couple unintentionally sign their own death warrant, as Diego and Sage manage to kill them and survive through this deadly quest for survival. This couple, who already have been struggling to make it through as a happy couple, do manage to get through this difficult situation that was designed to tear them apart.
They do work together to survive, but in order for their relationship to endure, there needs to be more inner work done by both. Certainly, this couple needs to sit with their issues and resolve them together. But at the same time, the ending of Bone Lake also gives us hope for a revival and a positive beginning in their romantic relationship.
