It's Christmas Day, so Ben Affleck and Matt Damon thought they'd give their fans a gift. Affleck was planning some socks, but here we go. They both gave us a brand new sneak peek of their upcoming movie called The Rip. As the name suggests, the characters involved are probably trying to rip off a stash of cash they found.

Other than the actors, who are playing JD Byrne (Affleck) and Dane Dumar (Damon) in the film, Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another), Sasha Calle (The Flash), Scott Adkins (Prisoner of War), and more are starring too.

The film is directed by Joe Carnahan, who gave us some high-octane action films like The A-Team (2010), Smokin' Aces (2006), and more, and who also co-wrote the story with Michael McGraine.

According to The Rip's synopsis (via IMDb),

"A group of Miami cops discovers a stash of millions in cash, leading to distrust as outsiders learn about the huge seizure, making them question who to rely on."

As of this writing, the film is currently scheduled for a release on January 16, 2026, and will be available for streaming on Netflix instantly.

What's in The Rip's sneak peek?

Both Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are playing cops in the film. By the looks of it, Damon seems to be the one with some naughty thoughts about the stash of $20 million they found. Feels like he is interested in taking some cut from it. Or, maybe more.

On the other hand, Affleck's character seems more ethical, as he is trying to abide by the law. Or, maybe he is just afraid to do something risky that might make them rich so they can live out their lives happily ever after in a vacation town.

Teyana Taylor is seen counting the cash in it. However, it isn't clear if she is on the cops' side. But she is one of the people who are inquiring about something with Calle's character. Maybe she's a rat, just like her character in One Battle After Another (2025).

Tension arises in The Rip's trailer when Damon's Dane Dumar implies that it is a crime scene and he will do whatever he feels like. To that, Affleck's JD Byrne refuses.

Now, we have to see if they'll all work closely to solve this case or rip that money off.
