Netflix continues its thriller streak with the latest German entry, Brick, helmed by Philip Koch. The film exclusively premiered on Netflix today, and with an intense setup, twisted plotline, and single-location narrative, it has already garnered quite some social media attention.

The story is a psychological survival thriller happening inside one single building and portrays the emotional turmoil of the subjects who are struggling to get past an enigmatic brick wall. With a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes, the plot of Brick is set in Hamburg, and German actress Ruby O. Fee leads the cast alongside Matthias Schweighöfer.

What do we know about the story of Brick?

Brick is a burning example of how horror can be induced inside a story without using actual mysterious figures. It is mainly a single-location-based plot that centers on a couple, Oliva and Tim. The pair is on the verge of splitting, and Olivia wakes up in the middle of the night after a cold fight and decides to leave without Tim. It is at this point that their lives are turned upside down.

A mysterious wall materializes out of the blue and blocks their apartment's exit. Struck by panic, the couple manages to get in touch with their neighbors, and to their surprise, it is revealed that the entire building has been surrounded by the mysterious wall from all sides.

It feels like the entire building has been cut off from the world, and with no means of communication and electricity, the whole block is trapped. Even the water supply is running out, and tension is starting to build. Brick is a movie that unravels the first twist within 10 minutes of the opening sequence, and things only get worse from that point.

It appears that the 'Brick' wall is not an ordinary one and can resist. With the intensity building up and a claustrophobic atmosphere setting in, Olivia and Tim, along with the inhabitants of the building, must find a way out to safety before time runs out on them. The movie is a perfect survival story with subtle elements of science fiction clubbed with mystery and horror. The official synopsis of Brick, per IMDb, reads:

"A couple whose apartment building is suddenly surrounded by a mysterious brick wall must work with their neighbors to find a way out."

Who is in the cast of Brick?

Ruby O. Fee plays one of the protagonists in Brick, a young woman named Olivia who lives with her husband, Tim, a character portrayed by Matthias Schweighöfer. As the flashbacks reveal, the couple has had a tough time over the loss of their newborn baby and are trying to mend their bruised relationship.

Olivia even revives an old van where the two probably have their best times spent together, and plans a trip to Paris to start over. However, Tim, who is an employee at a game-developing company, is not ready to move yet, and his work seems to be his priority at the moment. German star Frederick Lau is also a part of the cast of Brick alongside Alexander Beye, who has played the roles of Olivia and Tim's neighbors.
