Andy Samberg: Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg is the newest actor announced for Zootopia 2

Disney has officially confirmed Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor Andy Samberg as a member of the cast of Zootopia 2. Disney's 2020 investor day saw the announcement of the sequel to the 2016 film, which will hit theaters in 2025, reports Deadline. The first film took in over $1 billion globally, reports Box Office Mojo, and introduced fans to Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.

Their story will be picked up in Zootopia 2, as well as introducing new characters to the city. Samberg's addition is among a number of casting announcements that have augmented the voice cast. Disney hasn't said anything about his character yet, but several reports suggest that he will be the voice of a member of the Lynxley family, a long-standing and prominent family in Zootopia.

The studio has characterized the Lynxleys as the constructors of the city's weather walls, which maintain the varied biomes in working order. In addition to Samberg, actors David Strathairn, Macaulay Culkin, and Brenda Song will voice other members of the Lynxley family, The Wrap states.

With new cast members joining established voices like Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin, Zootopia 2 is shaping up as a major animated release.

Andy Samberg joins the cast of Zootopia 2

Andy Samberg has been announced to voice Pawbert Lynxley, the youngest of the Lynxley clan. Pawbert is easy-going and is the antithesis of the driven and influential reputation of his family. The Lynxleys consist of Milton, the patriarch of the family, voiced by David Strathairn; Cattrick, the eldest son, voiced by Macaulay Culkin; and Kitty, the quick-witted daughter, er voiced by Brenda Song.

Samberg has already been established as a comedian, with credits on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Saturday Night Live. Samberg has also voiced characters before in Sony's Hotel Transylvania franchise and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs as Brent McHale.

Having already had experience in voice acting, Samberg demonstrates how well he fits into Disney's strategy of using known actors for their big animated releases. By playing Pawbert Lynxley, Samberg is part of a large cast of new and veteran actors. His role is part of the sequel's growth of Zootopia's universe, which will include more districts and plots not present in the original movie.

Returning cast and creative team of Zootopia 2

Disney announced during a 2023 earnings call, as reported by Deadline, that Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin are set to return as Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps. These two characters are at the center of the sequel. Other reprising voices include Idris Elba as Chief Bogo, Nate Torrence as Clawhauser, Shakira as Gazelle, and Bonnie Hunt and Don Lake as Judy's mother and father.

Zootopia 2 is being directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard. Bush penned the script as well and is the chief creative officer at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Michael Giacchino, who scored the original film, is back to score the sequel. Yvett Merino is the producer.

Disney has expanded the franchise further since 2016. The 2022 Disney+ anthology series Zootopia+, the shorts delved into supporting characters like Duke Weaselton and Mr. Big. As per Disney's press release for the series, the shorts were created to keep the audience interested in the franchise while production on the sequel was underway.
