Jesse Plemons will be chasing Emma Stone in their next film called Bugonia. The trailer already looks funny, and the former is one conspiracy-obsessed individual who thinks there's something fishy about the latter, who is one high-powered CEO. Other than them, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, Alicia Silverstone, and more are in the film, too.

Yorgos Lanthimos is directing the film. He has already worked with Emma Stone on films like Poor Things (2023) and Kinds of Kindness (2024). The latter also got him an Academy Award nomination. His other works include The Lobster (2015), The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017), The Favourite (2018), and more.

Ari Aster, who is known for making elevated horror films, is attached to Bugonia as a producer alongside Emma Stone, Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, and more. As of now, he has directed four films: Hereditary (2018), Midsommar (2019), and Beau is Afraid (2023). Another of his films, Eddington, will be released on July 18, 2025. Emma Stone is in the film too.

It will follow a couple of conspiracy-obsessed friends who are trying to save the world. The film's synopsis, as Deadline presents it, goes like this:

"Bugonia follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth."

Although this is the only detail about the film's plot, Bugonia is itself a remake of a South Korean film called Save the Green Planet! If you fancy knowing more about what you can expect from the film, just go through its plot once.

A breakdown of the film's trailer

youtube-cover

It's a short trailer but explains the story well, or at least the mentality of these conspiracy-obsessed guys. They think of Emma Stone's Michelle as an alien who is trying to control the world. The narration clears it out as Plemons resonates it with bees. Like bees work and die for the queen bee, people work for Emma Stone. That's what they believe.

And around the 0:40 mark in the trailer, we get to hear Green Day's 1994 classic, Basket Case. That song itself will give you a proper hint of what's going on in there.
