On June 26th, the makers of Bugonia released its teaser trailer, which has a runtime of one minute and 36 seconds. The video begins with the voiceover that says, "It all starts with something magnificent. A flower, then a honeybee." It further dissects how the bees are dying as they gather all the honey. The voiceover runs parallel with the visuals of Michelle, who is the CEO of a large pharmaceutical corporation.

Michelle is eventually kidnapped by two men, and in a later scene, one of them asks: "How can you tell she's an alien?" To which the other guy explains that the signs are obvious. The entire storyline is wrapped in mystery and a sense of the bizarre, which is the signature style of all of Yorgos' films.

The two men truly believe that the CEO is an alien who wants to destroy the Earth. This paranoia is the central theme of the entire story, and we can expect a weird storyline that is hard to wrap your head around. Yorgos is known for his experimental films like Dogtooth, The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and Poor Things.

While the initial premise might seem off, we can expect a sense of ambiguity, dry humor, and other things that are present in all of Yorgos' work. The main punch of the film would be the actual revelation of whether the CEO is an alien or not, and how the two men react to it.

Bugonia is written by Will Tracy, while its producers include Ari Aster, Emma Stone, Yorgos Lanthimos, Ed Guiney, Miky Lee, Andrew Lowe, Lars Knudsen, and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko. In the past, Yorgos and Stone have collaborated on films like The Favorite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness.

The cast members of the film include,

  • Emma Stone as Michelle
  • Jesse Plemons as Teddy
  • Aidan Delbis
  • Stavros Halkias
  • Alicia Silverstone

The original South Korean film, Save the Green Planet!, was penned and directed by Jang Joon-hwan, and it came out on April 4, 2003. The off-beat storyline of the film might have attracted Yorgos to do its English language remake. Bugonia will be released by Focus Features on October 24, 2025. Universal Pictures is handling its international distribution.
