Camp Rock 3 is in the works, with the Jonas Brothers set to return as stars and Demi Lovato as an executive producer, according to the latest report from Deadline. It comes shortly after the rumors about the cast's reunion, and cryptic social media posts from the Jonas brothers suggest that it might be true.
Camp Rock 3 marks the latest collaboration between its musical cast, who previously worked together over fifteen years ago on the sequel, titled Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. It was released two years after the first film, which premiered on the Disney Channel and catered mainly to its teenage audience.
Per Deadline, here are a few details about the film's plot,
"Connect 3 loses their opening act for a major reunion tour, returning to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing. As campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise and friendships are tested, leading to unexpected alliances, revelations, and romances."
It further reads,
"Camp Rock’s all-new campers include bold and determined Sage (Liamani Segura) and her easygoing brother Desi (Hudson Stone), cello prodigy Rosie (Lumi Pollack), drummer with his own beat Cliff (Casey Trotter), choreo queen Callie (Brooklynn Pitts), intimidating influencer Madison (Ava Jean), and camp bad boy Fletch (Malachi Barton).”"
Camp Rock 3: The latest updates about the reported musical threequel
Before the latest report from Deadline, Disney had been tight-lipped about Camp Rock 3, but the Jonas brothers have been dropping some clues about its potential return.
Online outlets such as Vancouver is Awesome and the Daily Hive news have mentioned that the Jonas brothers were spotted in the Canadian capital, shooting for the project, dubbed Rock the Boat. The former outlet mentioned that the three brothers were in the city for two days in September to film the Disney movie.
The brothers have also shared some videos on their social media, potentially teasing their return for a third chapter. In a recent post, they were lip-syncing to a dialogue, leading to fans' speculations about their return for a follow-up to Camp Rock 2. Before this, Joe Jonas also spoke about the project on Sean Evans' Hot Ones show. He reportedly said,
"Read Camp Rock 3."
He coyly added,
"Sorry, Disney."
Later, Demi Lovato didn't confirm or deny these reports. During her recent appearance on Andy Cohen's talk show, an audience member asked her if Camp Rock 3 is happening, to which the singer-actress responded:
"It was so much fun to perform with them [the Jonas brothers at a recent event]. I had a blast, and the reception was so great, so nostalgic for so many people, including myself. And [to answer] if Camp Rock 3 is really happening, I saw that Joe said something, and I'm really excited for the new generation to take the lead, and you'll just have to wait and see."
Only a few days later, Disney confirmed the third project's development. In a statement, Disney's Ayo Davis said,
“‘Camp Rock’ is an important part of the Disney Channel Original Movie legacy, with unforgettable music, energetic storytelling, and characters that live in the hearts of fans to this day. Bringing it back with Kevin, Joe, Nick, and Demi is such a full-circle moment, and we can’t wait to reintroduce this world to a new generation.”
Camp Rock 3 is yet to receive an official release date.
