If you thought Caught Stealing was done once the credits rolled, think again. Darren Aronofsky just dropped a post-credits scene that wonderfully sets up a sequel, teasing bigger heists, higher stakes, and a lot more chaos for Hank Thompson and his entourage. Based on Charlie Huston's eponymous book, many fans have wondered if the film will follow along with the novel franchise.
With a jaw-dropping cameo and a cliffhanger that ties directly into Charlie Huston’s next book, this scene is a full-on invitation to the next chapter of mayhem. Here’s why you absolutely need to stick around for what comes after the credits.
Caught Stealing's post-credits scene
In Caught Stealing’s explosive finale, Hank pulls off the ultimate escape. With $4 million in tow, which was money meant to be split between the Jewish gangsters, the Russian mob, and a corrupt cop named Roman, Hank impersonates Russ and slips out of New York City while chaos consumes his enemies. Roman, the mobsters, and the gangsters all meet violent ends, clearing a path for Hank’s getaway to Mexico, where he leaves a trail of hints proving his innocence to his mother.
Throughout the film, Hank’s mother is only a voice, and even though it's clear that his mom is an integral part of his life, she never shows up. The post-credits scene flips that dynamic: Laura Dern, who voiced his mom finally appears, opening a package with half of Hank’s fortune. She whispers a stunned “F***”, after which the movie ends, while teasing that Hank’s story is far from over.
Charlie Huston’s novels continue the ride. In Six Bad Things, Hank navigates South America’s shadowy corners, dodging the Russian mafia and safeguarding his family, encountering unpredictable allies and deadly foes.
In A Dangerous Man, he comes back to New York to work with the mafia as he guards a high profile basketball player. The post credits scene suggests that Hank's story will most probably continue along the route of the novels and we'll get to see more of Austin Butler in a possible sequel.
