With Avengers: Doomsday, the MCU will soon witness the culmination of its multiverse saga. The universe took its baby steps in 2008 with Iron Man, with Robert Downey Jr. as the lead. Now, nearly two decades later, Downey is going to return with a completely different role as Doctor Doom. This Marvel villain often wears metal headgear that hides his face, but some reports suggest that this won't be the case with Downey's MCU role.
Downey will show his face as the big bad Victor von Doom, but he will also be joined by his co-stars like Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, and Tom Hiddleston in Avengers: Doomsday. That begs the question: wouldn't their characters find it odd that Iron Man and Doctor Doom have the same face? While it may seem strange for the fictional heroes, it might be odd for his co-stars as well. In line with this, ScreenRant recently asked Chris Evans how he looks at Downey taking on the role of a villain within the universe. Here's what Evans said,
"I mean, I can't wait to see what he does. I'm sure it's going to be incredible."
He further added,
"When I first heard it, I was like, 'Huh?' But it's almost like cheese and the crust. You're like, 'There's nothing more we can do with this pizza,' and then you're like, 'Oh, damn. You know? What else? What if we did this? (makes flipping motion). Whoa.'"
Based on these comments, Evans seems just as excited as the MCU fans about Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday.
Will Chris Evans be in Avengers: Doomsday? Here's what the actor said

Chris Evans recently joined Dakota Johnson for an interview about their latest romantic comedy film, Materialists. It also stars Pedro Pascal, who will soon enter the Marvel universe that Evans has been a significant part of as Captain America. Pascal will play Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps, followed by Avengers: Doomsday. However, it's not yet clear whether Evans will be joining Pascal in this journey.
So, during a recent interview, ScreenRant asked Evans about his potential presence in Doomsday and whether he has been in touch with his past co-stars since they signed the movie's contract. Here's what Evans said,
"Yeah, I talk to them all the time. It's where Pedro is right now. I mean, it's sad to be away. It's sad to not be back with the band, but I'm sure they're doing something incredible, and I'm sure it's going to be that much harder when it comes out and you feel like you weren't invited to the party."
Evan neither confirmed nor denied his appearance in the MCU tentpole. Regardless, he still thinks highly of Robert Downey Jr. and appreciates how Downey helped his transition into the MCU.
"He was the one who kind of talked me into it. I didn't want to take the role. I said no a few times and he was the one that kind of gave the knowledge," Evans said.
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to drop in theaters in 2026.
