Chris Hemsworth is about to enjoy yet another high-octane action year as the actor has announced two major films coming to Amazon in 2026. From high-stakes underwater thrills to mind-bending heists, Hemsworth will bring several storylines to life to captivate audiences. One of these is a highly anticipated collaboration with the studio, where the actor will explore unseen territory.

In Subversion, a submarine thriller for Amazon's MGM Studios, Hemsworth plays a former naval commander who finds himself in an extreme situation. Describing it as 'Die Hard on a submarine', he finds himself being blackmailed into piloting a submarine with illegal cargo that puts Hemsworth's character in a life-or-death situation both personally and professionally.

According to sources, the plotline of the movie reads,

"A once-promising Naval commander who is blackmailed by a cartel-like operation into piloting a dangerous submarine carrying illegal cargo across international waters, thrusting him into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, outmaneuvering blockades, and navigating perilous threats both in and outside of the submarine."

Subversion is directed by Patrick Vollrath, who has previously directed 7500, and brings both physical tension and psychological tension to a character actor like Hemsworth. Subversion is written by Andrew Ferguson and has Lorenzo di Bonaventura attached as producer. The film is shot in a confined, previously stressful environment inside a submarine, with inner drama that will engage with gritty realism and suspenseful storytelling.

Along with Subversion, Hemsworth is also starring in Crime 101, an exhilarating crime drama based on the novella by Don Winslow. Hemsworth plays a master thief in the middle of a multimillion-dollar heist as the story pulls in his dynamic relationship with an insurance broker, played by Halle Berry, who is in bad trouble after the heist goes south.

Mark Ruffalo has also joined the film as the dedicated LAPD detective on the heels of the criminals. Under the direction of Bart Layton, Crime 101 is also targeting good narrative compression while introducing plenty of drama, conflict, complexity, and action. Along with Hemsworth, Barry Keoghan, and Monica Barbaro are also part of the ensemble cast.

In addition to these two, Chris Hemsworth will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday. Hemsworth will be reprising his role as Thor as he reunites with his brother Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. As the franchise moves in mingling directions, Avengers: Doomsday will be carrying some heavier and darker content and will have higher stakes for the team. It's one of the biggest films Marvel is looking forward to as of now, and needless to say, the stunning ensemble and the return of the Russo brothers will make it a memorable ride!
