Chris Stapleton talked about his music career in an exclusive interview with GQ on October 23, 2023, revealing learning about songwriting helped him start his country singer:

"The notion of writing songs was not foreign to me. What was foreign to me was learning that when George Strait sang a song, he didn’t necessarily write it. When I found out that there was this golden job where someone would pay you to sit in a room and make up songs…I thought, Man, that’s the greatest job in the world."

Chris Stapleton released his third studio album, Higher, on November 10, 2023. The album is his fifth studio album, and first since 2020's Starting Over. Higher featured a total of 14 tracks.
